BallHype Acquired by Future US
After 18 months of going it alone, we’ve decided to join forces with Future US, Inc. You can read the press release here, and some more details here. Future US has a terrific portfolio of magazines and web sites, and we’ll benefit from their expertise, resources and audience.
What changes around here? Not much… BallHype and ShowHype are still the places to go for sports and entertainment news, and Jason, Erin, Howie and Ziller are still doing the same thing as before, except now we’re getting a paycheck. We’re also hiring, so if you’re a software engineer or editor, send us a note.
We know BallHype and ShowHype wouldn’t be what they are today without support from many of you. We are appreciative of every story posted (unless you’re a venetian blinds manufacturer), comment, link and widget. Thank you!
Woo hoo! Congrats!
Not sure where my blogs would be if I didn’t have this resource. Thanks for all the amazing work you’ve put in!
You guys(& gal) all deserve this!
Thanks Kellex! We’re happy to have been able to be a part of your corner of the blogdome.
Congratulations Jason, Erin, Howie, and Tom! You’ve created a great community and it’s about time you be rewarded monetarily for all of your hard work.
Congrats guy — welcome to the salaried world?
Hope the site doesn’t change a bit.
Thanks Brandon and James! It’s been a lot of fun, and we don’t plan on changing anything. I don’t think I’ll ever underestimate the value of a paycheck again. Or free coffee.
[…] Last but least, I’d like to congratulate Jason and Erin Gurney, the masterminds behind BallHype who announced the sale of their brainchild today. […]
Congrats Erin. Thats great news.
Wait - Tom is on in this? And there’s money? And you need an editor?

Sounds like a match made in heaven.

Congrats on the big news. I am very happy for yall!
That’s awesome, congrats! I can’t even imagine what blogging-life was like pre-Ballhype.
Congrats, but you definitely could have gotten double what you did. Good luck
@ Joe and Ethanator: thanks!
@ Carolyn: I’ll check it out
@ Larry: I can’t remember what real life was like pre-BallHype
@ Jeff: We’re bringing you in the room next time.
[…] My favorite sports site, Ballhype, was just bought for a good chunk of change. Congrats Erin and Jason […]
I am so happy for you guys. You put in so much hard work and are always amazingly quick to respond.
Funnily enough I was just about to comment the other day that I never see any advertising on ballhype and wondered how on earth your revenue model could work — well now there is an answer!
Well done…
Mookie
PS As Carolyn said, I had no idea that Ziller was involved either!
Congratulations guys — not only an acquisition, but acquired by the publishers of my elementary school bible, Nintendo Power. Awesome.
great news, love seeing hard work pay off like this. Keep up the great work.
Congrats. You guys have done a great job an deserve this.
Yes, congrats to you all! I was a little concerned whether things would take off for you or not (new businesses have a high failure rate), but looks like this new venture had a happy ending.
Woohoo. I’ll be the editor. I got a 770 on my SAT verbal and just graduated from college. I’ll work for peanuts. Less than Howie even.
Congrats again,
Chone
Ballhype has been the best thing to happen to my silly blog. The sports blog community is filled with cool people, and we can commiserate here on Ballhype. All the best to you guys–well-deserved!
@ Mookie: Didn’t you know? Ziller is involved in everything.
@ Kyle: That was a factor for one of us too.
@ cuzzy, Michael, and MCBias: Thanks! Much appreciated.
@ chone: Howie pays US.
@ The Zoner: Glad we’re able to help - and thanks!
